1. Pick your side first
The line across the top is split in two. The left half writes the whole website in English. The right half writes it in Spanish. Click a side and everything you read changes to that language. It does not change what you are learning, only the language things are explained in.
2. The lessons
Lessons opens on a card for each topic. Click a topic, then a lesson, and the player takes you one step at a time.
- Each step teaches exactly ONE new word. Everything else in the sentence is a word you already saw.
- English is on the left and blue. Spanish is on the right and red.
- Click either half to hear that sentence read out loud.
- The new word is highlighted so you can see what changed.
- The bar at the top shows how far through the lesson you are.
3. Saying it back
Press the microphone button on a step, say the sentence, and the site listens and gives you a score out of 100. Say it again as many times as you like; nothing is lost by trying.
4. Looking a word up
The Dictionary takes an English or a Spanish word and gives you its meanings and examples, and reads them aloud. Every lesson step also has a look-up button for its new word.
5. Pronunciation
- The pronunciation key writes every English sound the way a Spanish speaker reads it.
- Vowel sounds goes through the eighteen English vowel sounds one at a time.
- Word families shows how changing the first letter gives you a new word.
- The small writing in the corner of a word card is that word said in Spanish letters.
6. The word sets
- Super words are the hundred English words that carry the most meanings. Learn these early.
- Time words puts the days, the months, the clock and how often in one place.
- Keywords collects the phrases built on up, down, in and out.
- Word parts ranks the prefixes and endings by how often they appear.
- All words is every word taught on the site, in one list.
7. For children
The Kids page is the same material with big buttons and sound before reading.
